KNC started in 1979 when a public meeting was called by Thelma Murphy (still active in the community and then Alderwoman on Council) to discuss the establishment of a Neighbourhood Centre as a “meeting place where neighbour meets neighbour.” At the time Number 10 Station Street was about to be vacated by the Health Commission. The building was passed over to the newly formed Committee who applied for Western Sydney Area Assistance Scheme (WSAAS) funding. The centre was run entirely by volunteers until 14 June 1981 when WSAAS funded Coordinators commenced duty.
We are managed by a Committee of annually-elected local residents.
We welcome new people in management, use of services, volunteering, community campaigns or dropping in to see what’s going on and have a ‘cuppa’:
Do you have an issue you would like help with or have you noticed something that you feel needs action?
Contact the KNC Manager to see how you can get involved in this vibrant and progressive organisation.
